Mejor solo que mal acompañado

IS IT COrrect to say " Better alone than in bad company ? Or is that just a copy-cat?

hermit August 07, 2009 10:02 AM

hi robindesbois - that's a good smooth translation.

hermit

ROBINDESBOIS August 07, 2009 10:05 AM

Do you have a better equivalent in English?

hermit August 07, 2009 10:11 AM

better translation? nothing better comes to mind right away, but there
is an often heard saying that is related: "you're judged by the company you keep.".

hermit

It's better to be alone than in bad company.
It's better to be alone than with someone who will hurt you.

These are good translations, but in English it is not a set phrase like it is in Spanish.

@hermit You're judged by the company you keep = Dime con quien andas y te diré quien eres.

Mary, Mary quite contrary...
I usually say Más vale sólo que mal acompañado.

I think you're better off alone

With friends like that, who needs enemies?
