Hint: Pay attention to prepositions.

I think it's (d).....:thinking: I haven't submitted my answer yet and I don't know if (d) is right. And I think it's (d) because it should be "wide", right? :thinking: It is a preposition....

I would say that the sentence as written is correct, but that it would be improved by replacing "across" with "wide".

I would say the error is thinking that this is a good question. It's probably one of the ones which will provoke massive arguments between the examiners. The answer isn't A, B, or C, but either D or E is defensible.
