This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for September 16, 2009

rincón (masculine noun (el)) — corner, nook, inside corner. Look up rincón in the dictionary

Dejé tus zapatos en el rincón del cuarto.
I left your shoes in the corner of the room.

Would this word also be used in a more figurative way as well? As in e.g.:

' My/ Our little corner of the world'?

' The corner of the page (as in of a website or book)' ?

Is there a difference with the use of 'esquina'? :confused:

How about a 'corner' in soccer by the way? :D (I am feeling confident Bob will know this.. :p)

Rule of thumb: rincón is internal, esquina is external.

"Nuestro rinconcito del mundo" / "Nuestro rincón en el/del mundo" :good: "Nuestra esquina del mundo":bad:
Why? rincón has more meanings than only the one the machine(that is the classic one) showed:

2. m. Escondrijo o lugar retirado.
3. m. Espacio pequeño. Cada aldeano posee un rincón de tierra.
5. m. coloq. Domicilio o habitación particular de alguien.

Obviously, they are related to the word, "corner" - "small space".

hi crotalito - readily understood, but something like "there's a place in my heart for you." would be more natural.

Hello Hermit, I'm really excited of that you have answer me in this question that I had.

Look, I've around to one and mid studying English for myself really, when I started in learning the language my brother who study the career of languages in the university starts to teach me early time, but for unlucky he didn't can teach me anymore for his work and school, but well currently, only I read a lot post and also I practice here daily with the others users hosted here in this place, therefore sometimes I tend to have doubts or questions about the language.
