Piensa en el que dirán
Don´t do that think of what people would sa y if you do that !
IS this the equivalent in English? |
look before you leap
you should think before you speak |
@Poli: this is rather a worry about the prejudices from other people, not about the consequences of what you do.
A la chica millonaria le preocupa el qué diran, por eso no se casó con el muchacho pobre. The millionaire girl is worried about gossip/what will be told about her, that's why she didn't marry the poor boy. |
Oh, OK Angela thanks for clearing that up. This is what I would say:
She's worried about what they'll say. She worried that she may not be able to save face. |
¿Por qué "el que dirán" y no "lo que dirán"?
|

@pjt: El artículo "el" con un verbo usado como sustantivo es una convención en español. :)
