Is belly button the same as navel?

Yes, it is. I would always use 'navel' when talking to adults, (if ever I needed to :thinking:) and I would only ever use 'belly button' when talking to small children.

Hay unas naranjas que se llaman "navel" porque tienen un ombliguito :)

También existe el dicho: "hay que se cree que es el ombligo del mundo" (los que creen que el mundo gira a su alrededor, they think they are the center of the universe) :)

That might be a British-ism. Although "navel" is certainly more formal (you Brits....), I wouldn't hesitate to use "belly button" except in the most formal situations, and even then I might still use it without worrying about offending.

That's kind of funny ... the belly-button of the world.......... :)
