English-British dictionary (ies)
My question is for the British people in the forums, mainly.
What English-English dictionary do you regard and use as the best? Is there a online site you recommend for an English-English dictionary? Thanks. |
I have always thought the Oxford English dictionaries are by far the best, although conservative. There is The Concise Oxford Dictionary, one small book. There is the Shorter OED which is 2 large books, and there is the OED which is a whole shelf of huge books. You can buy the OED for the computer for about 180 pounds sterling, I think, but probably far too much information for most people.

Now my other question concerning dictionaries... and your short OED reference brings it to my mind. The short OED is the same as the Unabridged version of dictionaries here in the US? Do you know? Maybe the Americans in the forums can answer this... Thanks again Perikles. |
The two main British English dictionaries are Oxford and Chambers.
By English-English dictionary do you mean English dictionary in English or something like http://www.travelfurther.net/dictionaries/ ? For definitions of English words I simply use Google define:word. |

Thank you! |
Likely Chileno, I don't use dictionary online only I've used the dictionary that is here in this website, but I like, you I need a dictionary or better it said, I need a good dictionary with the words in Past, past perfect, future, present, participle, because sometimes I forgot the words and well just with the stress of the word, it's hard to remember in the same time.
Thank you beforehand for your support. I duplicated the information. I hope your comments. |

Merriam-Webster. I have an online one that I could access with one click.
But that's only for definitions as for the other stuff, like grammar, I use this place's dictionary. sometimes I search it up on the internet or my textbook |
