Tener muchos humos
When somebody has much smoke in the head , that means they think they are the centre of the universe, and we think they are idiots.

He is very high-and-mighty.
He is very stuck-up. He is all mouth and trousers. (although more likely she :D:D) |
:D
Maybe also 'He's full of it' or ' He's full of himself'. :) Though the first one may also mean that someone is telling a lot of bs... http://esl.about.com/od/f/g/ig_f_fullo.htm Out of curiosity, I ran across 'hacer(se) humo' recently. Would this be something along the lines of 'to blow fumes' or more like 'to become/make yourself invisible/scarce'? :) |
According to the dic, you´re correct, but that´s southamerican Spanish.
|
"Subírsele a alguien los humos (a la cabeza)" means that someone suddenly believe they're above anyone else. :)
@empanada: "hacerse humo" or "esfumarse" means to disappear in figurative language. Buscamos al Ministro para que nos diera una entrevista, pero se hizo humo y nadie lo encuentra. @Robin: nada de sudamericano. Americano. En México también se usa bastante. |
When someone achieves a measure of success, a common caution is:
"Don't let it go to your head.". hermit |
