Asking about the Copa Mundial

Asking about the Copa Mundial

What would be the most common way of asking an employee of a restaurant if they are going to be showing the world cup games on TV.

In English we would say "Are you going to have the games on TV?" or "Are you showing the WC on TV?" etc.

AngelicaDeAlquezar May 13, 2010 10:42 AM

In Mexico: "¿Van a poner los partidos del Mundial?" / "¿Van a poner el Mundial?" ;)

¿Van a pasar el Mundial? would be the most common here.

As a curious thing, here in schools you can watch the World Cup games... even they have made some ridiculous books "to make the most" of the football games for the kids. In summary, kids will be watching the World Cup instead of been studying.

I mean, really - isn't the World Cup more important than maths?

By the way, Ookami - I just got my Argentina Soccer jersey. It doesn't say "Messi" on it. Do they really consider Maradona to be "god-like" in Argentina? :)

poli May 14, 2010 08:42 AM

¿Boca Juniors?

ookami May 14, 2010 08:58 AM

Generally, we consider it a "god-like" in football skills and someone not worth talking about in all the other things. But maybe among(between can go here?) poor people, that generally is less educated(yes, it sounds bad but it's the[capitalism] true), yes, it's like a god-like.

Children watch football matches in class, so they they don't "miss" school!

ookami May 14, 2010 10:36 AM

Thanks poli, lol I used "it" for a person, well, Maradona...

Yes, football here is important for most people, sometimes even in a violent way. But as I don't like football, I don't know much about that enviroment.

It would not be strange if next president is a football manager.

Well, there's no way I'd endanger my life by wearing a US team jersey in Argentina during the World Cup!! So I got an Argentine jersey so that I can fit in. :)

I don't know if I'll have the time to see a game in person while I'm in Argentina, but will definitely watch the games on TV!! :)

It's not like I'll get my choice of where I want to go. This is a college group, and although I'm twice the age of anyone else in the group (including the professor), I will still be required to do whatever the group does.

Besides, I am sure that one visit to the Cafe Tortoni will be more than enough for me because I'm not a big fan of doing lots of "touristy" things. I want to do what real bonaerenses do! :)

ookami May 14, 2010 12:52 PM

poli May 14, 2010 01:23 PM

¿Terminaron de arreglarlo?

laepelba May 14, 2010 02:04 PM

I think that I've read that they finished the repairs. I would LOVE to go to el teatro Colón! I've been reading all about it. It is supposed to be one of the world's top opera houses. I just don't know if I will be allowed to venture out on my own....
