Self Taught and Need Help

I took 3 years of Spanish in high school, but I never had anyone to practice with (even in class :/ as most of the other students didn't care about actually learning to speak it). I'm now a junior in college, and I want to try again to learn this wonderful language. I need some help though. I get a lot of the basic stuff, like how to use verbs, but I really need some way to learn actual sentence structures and practice.

Does anyone have any ideas of homework or practice techniques that I can do on my own to help me learn? My companion right now is a DS game called "my Spanish coach" but mostly it's helping me learn new words, not how to string them together :/ .

Have a look at other members' posts in this forum. This is the place where I would suggest you try to do the same thing. Instead of real homework, some members invent sentences in English and translate them to Spanish. Read many of the threads here, and then post your own along the same vein.
In this forum, members will help you by giving hints (because we're encouraged not to do your homework for you). I think it's a great way to learn. Don't be afraid about making mistakes. We all do.

Always try to provide both translations in your posts. Context is very important. Make sure you take advantage of the 'Accents' drop-down menu just above the text input area. It contains all the characters you'll need to write Spanish words.

Enjoy!!!

You can work with the new words for you, words that you never have heard before.
Also you can try with realize short phrases and here they will be corrected for the experts.
Really the Spanish has a lot of rules, but they aren't an impediment, you can learn the Spanish to listen music, you can invite to someone to speak with you trough of a messenger and so you can improve the language.

They can give you their knowledge, they I believe what could be good choice you can talk with someone here or some chat room.

Best regards.

Thank you very much for the replies, I will take the advice to heart and get working on it right away! I found out a cousin of mine speaks the language quite fluently, and we are going to pen pal in Spanish :) with each other.
I will have to think of some sentences to translate!

You're welcome, I hope you can learn the language together to your pen pal.
