Acatar

I know you can say cumplir la ley.
Can you say acatar la ley?

JPablo July 06, 2010 06:01 AM

Yes, Sir. You can.
But you can also say, ‘Acato la orden del rey, pero no la cumplo’. (like 'respetar.) (1 tr. Tributar sumisión o respeto a una persona o a las órdenes, consejos, etc., que provienen de ella)
Or, ‘Un buen ciudadano acata las leyes’.
(2 Cumplir o estar dispuesto a cumplir órdenes, disposiciones, leyes, etc. I.e., obedecer, someterse. :)

Yes, you can.

cumplir = to comply

acatar = to obey

They are used pretty much the same in English as in Spanish.

I have other form to say that in Spanish.

Tengo la forma de hacer valer la ley.
That phrase is longer but it says almost the same that the first answer.
