Poner a alguien en un compromiso

How can we say " poner a alguien en un compromiso"?

Perikles July 24, 2010 04:04 AM

To put somebody under an obligation

Edit: if = apuro, then to put somebody in an awkward situation

I'd add this example as well,
no le regales nada, lo pones en un compromiso = don’t buy him anything or you’ll make him feel he has to buy you something.

In the sense of "apuro" as noted by Perikles, yes, awkward situation; me pones en un compromiso = you’re putting me in an awkward position. :)

No le regales nada, lo pones en un compromiso.
Don't buy/give him anything or he'll feel he has to return the favor.
Don't buy/give him anything or he'll think he has to give you something.
Don't give him a gift or he'll feel he has to give you one too.
Don't give him a gift or you'll make him feel obligated to give you one.

As perikles says,

Poner a alguien en un compromiso = To make someone feel obligated (to do something)
