What is going on? En español

any help on saying "what is going on?"

que es vas en? is that correct?

CrOtALiTo August 05, 2010 10:25 PM

I have heard that word in the movie.
But I'm not very sure about the translation, I don't want to give you an incorrect translation, but I have hear about that word that is interpreted as Que esta pasando.

Better that a native answers your question.

maybnxtseasn August 05, 2010 10:28 PM

thx

i think you are correct...my question is now is....are some expressions in english not able to be said in spanish? the same way??? like u said the same sentence but in a different way u said whats happening

CrOtALiTo August 05, 2010 10:34 PM

Yes, as you have said, there're diversity of ways in that you can give an expression for a only word.

In the old case that you said.

What is going on?
What's happening?

Really they mean the same solely that in different forms.

That was your question?

JPablo August 05, 2010 10:46 PM

What is going on?
¿Qué pasa? [what happens?]
¿Qué está pasando? [what is happening?]
¿Qué te traes? [what are you up to?]
¿Qué onda? [what's up?] :)

CrOtALiTo August 05, 2010 10:48 PM

Yes I didn't know the other phrases.

Thank you for the advices.

JPablo August 05, 2010 10:50 PM

You're welcome! :)

Wow these are both good questions and answers too. But since the language has everything to do with mascular and feminine specifications, can I say ''¿ Qué paso?'' when refering to a male and ''¿qué está pasanda?'' when talking to a female?

No you can't, but I can understand why you ask. That happens to adjectives, but pasando is a participle which never changes its ending.

poli August 06, 2010 12:06 PM

¿Que pasó? What happened?

How about there past forms or are they the same everyway?

JPablo August 06, 2010 02:38 PM

What was going on?
¿Qué pasó? [what happened?] (Although some people may use this as "What's up?")
¿Qué estaba pasando? [what was happening?]
¿Qué te traías? [what were you up to?]
¿Qué onda? [what's up?] (I think you only use this in present tense... there is not even a verb in Spanish here)

Hope that gives you an idea. (Not very common to use these past forms, although you could heard them.) :)

o yes. That makes the work easier for me. I would try to memorise them ( both the present and past forms) tonight and tomorrow, someday, I know would speak fine!

JPablo August 06, 2010 03:09 PM

Muy bien, Naija.
Memorizar está bien, y practicar también.

Gina August 08, 2010 11:00 AM

You couldn't translate that literally word-for-word, because Spanish sentences can't end in a preposition. I would use "¿Qué pasa?", though there are quite a lot of variations of the expression.

CrOtALiTo August 08, 2010 01:22 PM

Yes I'm agree with you Gina.

What's going on?

Can you spell word by word.

Equis August 08, 2010 09:27 PM

que tal, que pasa, que onda

JPablo August 09, 2010 03:55 AM

Hey, and if you want to be "challenging" you could also say,
¿Qué demonios está pasando? (As in "what the hell is going on?") (Literally, "What the demons is happening?") :)

CrOtALiTo August 09, 2010 08:42 PM

Pablo

What's going on there?
May you explain me more about your commentary.

Pablo.
Don't upset with me.

Just now I'm practice myself.

Hello Miguel.

What hell going on?

I don't know Miguel, I suppose a homicide in the apartment.
What.
How do you know that?

Well the police told me that a man got out of the Alice's apartment three hours ago with a weapon over his hands.

Oh my god.

I can't believe it.

Yes at least that was the information the cap gave me two minutes ago.

And.
Where's Alice?

Die.

What? Die.

Are you sure?

Yes.

What going on?

I can't believe that, because in the very early I saw to Alice getting out of her house and her side with the dog, and well I didn't see nothing suspicious with her.

Yes I saw her early too.
And I didn't see anything strong with her, but well now she is die for a man who entered to her house and shot against her.

Definitely this city isn't secure today.

Yes I think the same.

The end.

I hope you can correct me.

I will appreciate your correction.

Well, maybe Gina can check my corrections, given that this was all English... but I tried my best... The moral of the story, is that you better train your dog to defend you, or you are dead meat... right?
