Ring Around the Rosie
This is the title of a nursery rhyme, right?
Is there a good and/or authoritative translation of the lyrics into Spanish? Otherwise, sounds to me like "El corro de la patata"? |
Not quite - it is Ring a Ring of Rosies. A ring of rosies and a pocket full of posies were supposed to ward off the plague. The first signs of plague were sneezing, after which you fell down dead. Nice.
English nursery rhymes are stupid. It seems to have been translated into every other language on the planet, except Spanish. (See the link, which also states the plague connection is rubbish) |
Thank you, Perikles...
Interestingly enough, no Spanish version included... although the Italian adaptation sounds interesting. Yup, I guess it sounds "nice". (Somehow, it reminds me in all its grim aspects, the sinister, appalling and horrid 'nice activities' of the Holy Inquisition... putting ice on the hearts of the victims at the stake... to prolong their suffering... "These were niiice people") |
