I want to say:

el característico mando jerárquico romano.

the Roman characteristic command-hierarchy or
the characteristic Roman command-hierarchy?

the characteristic Roman command-hierarchy is OK, although I would say the characteristic Roman army hierarchy. (In an army, the hierarchy is implicitly a command heirarchy)

En "mando jerárquico" ¿no es "jerárquico" un adjetivo? Es decir que "hierarchical command" sería más literal.
