Hola ; Hello

I am new here. Just found this site. I am so excited to start researching here...

I am a high school Spanish Teacher, married to a WONDERFUL man from Guatemala. We have 2 sons, 18 and 12. We have an Old English Sheepdog who was imported from Guatemala 3 years ago. My mom has the full brother to my dog. We also have several fids in the house.

I teach Spanish in the local high school.

I am about to start teaching an evening course of Spanish to a group of adults who are really interested in learning conversational Spanish.

I am looking for information/ratings/reviews from someone who has taught Spanish to adults. What materials did you use? What did you like/diuslike about the book? workbook?

Thanks for your help!

Hola Mariposa, y bienvenida.

You married someone from Guatemala, and I married a wonderful woman from Mexico :) Although our children are much younger than yours.

I really don't have much experience teaching Spanish to adults. I taught an adult ESL class several years ago, and one of the things I can recommend to you is that with adults, you should keep the classes extremely practical. They want to learn vocabulary that is useful to them-- nothing like "El lápiz es largo y amarillo". :) I would start off maybe the second class period asking them for feedback-- asking what subject topics they would like to learn about, maybe what Spanish-speaking countries they are interested in etc, so that you can tailor some of the content to what they are really interested in. Maybe they're less interested in learning the colors and numbers, and more interested in learning the vocab to talk about films.

As far as specific materials/courses, I don't really have a recommendation.

Welcome again. :)

Hi, Mariposa

Welcome,

I am new here too. I don't have much experience teaching adults, but the times I have done it, I have liked to include lots of sayings and idioms since idioms are what tends to be ignored in classroom Spanish. I think it's fun to have people memorize short poems or parts of them for vocabulary. And I also used lots of natural sounding dialogues that I invented.

It's been a long time though since I have taught, so I really don't have any resources to suggest.

It's so nice to have more people joining every day!

Hello!
Just wanted to introduce myself. I am English teacher and I love my job. A friend told me to join your forum so I thought I might give it a try. I don't have much time but I'll try to keep in touch.
