Please, check this sentence
I'm not sure if the syntax is correct:
The Parliamentarians under Cromwell ended the war in August with a victory over the Scots (the Battle of Preston). Thanks. :) |
It seems fine to me.
|
I wasn't sure where placing 'in August'. But if you tell me that it is correct, it must be. Thanks a lot. :):rose:

Yeah - what they said. The sentence in your original question is great. :)
|
Looks just fine. As for pj's correction of chileno's sentence, I think that saying "sure of" is fine, though just saying sure works as well.
|
Maybe it's a dialectal variation. I'm not sure what my internalised rule is, but I suspect it's
sure of + NOUN PHRASE sure + VERB PHRASE E.g. I'm sure of it. I'm not completely sure of his trustworthiness. I'm sure he'll do it. I'm not sure when I can come. |

The question was about the first sentence . But thanks for the help with the second. :D

We sure learned something from it!
By the way, if you want to practice and learn, the film on Cromwell is rather edifying. (I saw it more than 20 years ago, but I think Perikles would approve it...) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cromwell_%28film%29 |
Thanks for the link. :) Although I don't know when I'll have enough time to watch the film and/or if I'll find it. :D
