De Perogrullo

I have heard the term perogrullada, and I think it mean cliché, but I'm not
sure of that either. Can someone explain these terms to me? Thanks.

ser de Perogrullo = to be patently obvious
perogrullada = platitude, truism, obvious thing to say

I guess you can also say it is a cliché, (as a platitude)

Moliner gives a good example,
Verdad de Perogrullo. Cosa muy sabida por todos y que es ocioso repetir. La frase proverbial se completa con «que a la mano cerrada le llamó [o llamaba] puño». *Lugar común. [commonplace]

Something known by everyone and it is useless to repeat. The proverbial sentence is completed with, "that a closed hand he called [or was calling] fist".

Well, Sosia's link is rich! :D
It reminded me some other tautologies, like the Blackfeet Indians savants: "The way to cross the river is to cross the river!" (I'll never forget that!)

¿para qué cruzo la carretera la gallina?
-para llegar al otro lado.
