Is the preterite for saber also used for "found out"?

Creo que he oído que se use el pretérito del verbo saber para decir __ found out o __ realized. Es eso verdad?

(Also, did I use the subjunctive in the right spot up there with se use? I'm a little unsure.)

se usa (no need for the subjunctive, unless you don't believe)

In the preterite tense, saber can mean 'found out', yes.
