Discutir asuntos y promover leyes

Discutir asuntos y promover leyes

I want to say (more or less):

En el Parlamento, la élite gobernante discutía sus asuntos y promovía leyes.

In the Parliament, the ruling elite discussed their bussines and promoted laws.

What do you think? Thanks. :)

Thanks, vita, but it should be much better. :o :)

Maybe issues instead of bussines?

I agree. Pity about the spelling. :p

P.S. I would say affairs, not business but either is OK

irmamar November 12, 2010 05:50 AM

Affairs, that's perfect. Thanks. :)

Which spelling?

Yes I see it now. Perikles, you must make a good proof reader. I would hate to be in your English class if you were teaching English:o

irmamar November 12, 2010 06:11 AM

You know that I'm dyslexic. :p ;)

Strangely, I am a little dyslexic but am very good at seeing the mistakes others make. And yes, I have been told I am a very demanding teacher (un profesor exigente). :D:D :wicked:

Yes, he is a very demanding teacher without earning any money. Can you imagine how he would be if he earned any money? :D :D
Perikles, the best.

You should know that discuss and discutir are not good cognates. To my knowlege discutir oftenimplies contention. The word discuss
is usually neutral unless context changes its meaning.

irmamar November 12, 2010 01:28 PM

The same in Spanish, we can say "debatir un tema", talk about, examine, study a topic, instead of "discutir un tema".

Normalmente, en el parlamento se discuten diversos temas (and they are not quarrelling). :)
