Jump the gun
 
This subject was approached in the idiom section of Tomísimo, but it was
never translated as a dicho. It seems to me that there should be one. Is
there?
Significa atribuir una cosa precipitada, (puede ser una atribución incorrecta porque la decisión fue hecha antes de averiguar todos los hechos).

Más bien precipitar(se a) conclusiones/hechos.

Para el sentido concreto de la largada en una carrera, decimos "salir en falso". Para el sentido figurado solemos decir "sacar conclusiones apresuradas/precipitadas" y por mis territorios hay un modismo que coincide en un 75%: "enseguida se hace la novela" o "ya está haciéndose la novela"
