It's one coincidence too many
CAn anyone explain how this structure works?
I guess it means too many coincidences. |
It is usually said sarcastically, as in "I don't think it was coincidence. Just tell the truth."
"It's one too many" usually describes a condition that stretches the imagination or truth. That was one drink too many. = I'm not in any condition to get home. It's one coincidence too many. = I think you're telling a lie. No one bumps into any old acquaintance that many times a week. |
Ok, thank you. I think I understand it.

If two players have incorrect hands, one having a card too many and another having a card too few, the dealer may correct it by drawing from the hand with too many cards and giving the excess to the hand with too few. If only one player ...."Hoyle's Rules of Games One Grave Too Many |

Es como decir "es el colmo", "es la gota que derrama el vaso"...
La última unidad lo vuelve "demasiado" e inaceptable. En el caso de la frase, parece ser que ha habido demasiadas coincidencias para haberse dado por casualidad. |
