Check these sentences, please

The British fought wars across the globe as never before and their role was greater than that of any other state.

American independence seemed to show that it was not going to harm British trade. The British were able to trade freely, so it seemed there were little need to conquer more territory.

They are not translations, so I don't write the Spanish version (but I didn't know the best forum). :)

Thanks a lot. :)

The sentence about American independence doesn't sound right. It's something about the combination of "seem", "show" and reusing the subject. The following sound much better and express similar ideas:

American independence seemed unlikely to harm British trade.
It seemed that American independence was not going to harm British trade.
American independence didn't seem to threaten British trade.

Thanks, I like the last one (although the other are perfect, too). :)

That's how I would translate them.

Hope this helped you, good luck.
