I'm currently in the process of working my way through a Spanish book. After encountering a lot of issues with software or algorithm based translations (Google Translate and others), I came to the conclusion that languages should really be left up to people.

I've posted an excerpt from a book that I'm having a hard time understanding, which I've copied below:

Como hacen tantos otros viajeros, a los pocos dias de permananencia en estos rumbos ya tenia bien forjada su opinion y, en su concepto, este exrano pais salvage no habia sido todavia bien explorado, mision gloriosa sobre la tierra reservada a gente como el

I have the individual words down, but the general idea is escaping me at the moment. Thank you!

The excerpt appeared to end abruptly, so I hunted down the original (with accent marks and complete words):

Como hacen tantos otros viajeros, a los pocos días de permanencia en estos rumbos ya tenía bien forjada su opinión y, en su concepto, este extraño país salvaje no había sido todavía bien explorado, misión gloriosa sobre la tierra reservada a gente como él.

What parts don't you understand?

it's a difficult sentence and it does not look like a homework.
I will try to wrote it down and I'm sure Rusty or other "english"-man will correct me

Como hacen tantos otros viajeros,
Like many others travelers do,

a los pocos días de permanencia en estos rumbos
after staying some days in those places

ya tenía bien forjada su opinión y,

he had already made (forged) an opinion and,

en su concepto,

by his judgement,

este extraño país salvaje no había sido todavía bien explorado,

this fierce strange country was not already good explored

misión gloriosa sobre la tierra reservada a gente como él.
mighty purpose on the world reserved for people like him.

Like many others travelers do, after staying some days in those places he had already made (forged) an opinion and, by his judgement, this fierce strange country was not already good explored, mighty purpose on this world reserved for people like him.
