Hubiera used for "should have"
I'm reading a book that deals with Spanish verb usage and the author is from Spain. There is a chapter dealing with modal verbs in Spanish, and not once does he mention that "hubiera" can be used...

In English we can say "From reading your notes, I realize that you are having problems with the subjunctive."

Irony, subjunctive, etc....
Sometimes I just can't formulate a thought in Spanish. I want to say "it's ironic that you said that." "Es irónico que hayas dicho eso." This doesn't sound right, but it's the best I can come up...

How in the hell do you say "how in the hell" in Spanish, or "where in the hell", or "who in the hell"...well, you get my drift. Creo que he escuchado algo como "¿cómo diablos..." pero no estoy...

As Chileno pointed out, a much easier construction for "whatever", "however", "wherever" etc is made by using "ser" in the subjunctive.
"Lo que sea" (whatever)
"Donde sea" (wherever)
"Como sea"...
