Hello! My name is Jamie!

Hello everyone, my name is Jamie! I'm from Southern California but I'm now living in Northern California. My native language is English, but growing up in California, I've been exposed to Spanish my whole life. Now I'd like to expand my abilities in the language, especially since my boyfriend is Mexican and most of his family doesn't know English. I've been able to communicate a little in broken Spanish to them, and I know they appreciate me trying. I'd like to learn more, to be able to better communicate with my boyfriend's family, since they mean so much to him.

Hola Jamie. Yo soy Villa. Bienvenida al forum/Welcome to the forum. I also as you grew up in Southern California in Glendale to be exact around Spanish speakers and Italian speakers. Then I moved to Italy for two years. I had a Mexican friend in Italy and he learned Italian fast in a few weeks just because he could speak Spanish. This is another good reason to learn Spanish because once you know Spanish you can learn all the other Latin based languages such as French, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian. While living in Italy I went to France many times and learned French. When I came back to California I learned Spanish and then Portuguese. I can give you many tips and ways to learn Spanish as I have if you want. Of course I had Spanish speaking girlfriends and married a Spanish speaker. We speak Spanish at home.
