3rd Conditional

[Aprendo]

I wrote up 10 sentences, hoping they are correct. I do recall that "hubiese" can be used instead of "hubiera" but that is mostly in writing and in certain parts of Spain. (?).

Here are very simple sentence I wrote in my attempt to use the 3rd conditional correctly and also in my daily self-study (I'm going to South American soon for several months).

Thanks to anyone who can ad advise and correct me.


1. Si huberiamos ido a la fiesta hubiera divertido

If we went to the party it would have had fun.


2. Si (yo) hubiera sabido hubiera lo hacido.

If I had known I would have done it.


3. Si (tu) huberias comido no hubieras tenido hambre

If you would have eaten you would not have been hungry


4. Si (yo) bubiera comprado el coche hubiera manajado a trabajo.

If I wold have bought the coche I would have driven to work.


5. Si (you) huberia comido la comida hubiera vomitado.

If I had eaten it I wold have thrown up.


6. (yo) Hubiera visitado a ella si hubiera sabido.

If would have visited her if I had known.


7. (yo) Huberia dicho tu si huberias me preguntado.

I would have told you if you would have asked.


8. (yo) Hubiera cantado la cancion si hubieria sabido tu quisiste hacer lo.

I would have sang the song if I had known you wanted me to.


9. (nos) Hubieriamos esperado si huberiamos querido hacer lo.

We would have waited if we had wanted to.


10. (yo) Hubiera viajado a sur America si hubiera ahhorado mas dinero.

or:

10b. (yo) Hubiera vajado a sur American si no huberia gastado me dinero.

The conditional mood isn't used in any of your sentences! You've used the imperfect subjunctive mood, which is sometimes needed in a secondary clause.
I've rewritten your English sentences so that they contain the conditional mood ('would + conjugated verb' or 'would have + past participle') in the main clause. You'll note that 'had' appears in the secondary (or subordinate) clauses. That word is used to form the imperfect subjunctive mood.
(The main clause can follow the subordinate clause, like in the first five sentences below.)

1. Had we gone to the party, it would have been fun.
2. Had I known, I would have done it.
3. Had you eaten you would not be hungry.
4. Had I bought the car I would have driven to work.
5. Had I eaten it, I would have thrown up.
6. I would have visited her had I known.
7. I would have told you, had you asked.
8. I would have sung the song had I known you wanted me to.
9. We would have waited had we wanted to.
10. I would have traveled to South America, had I not spent my money.

Now you just need to use the conditional mood where 'would' or 'would have' appears, and the imperfect subjunctive where 'had + past participle' appears.

Were the sentences I wrote, grammatically correct, though? Perhaps it's my definition of terms that is off?

So, I was way off base? I will do further study on this, but here is what I found on the internet. Please critique.

I am copying this verbatim:

Si hubiera sabido, hubiera ido contigo.

?Hubieras comprado el libero si te hubiera dicho?

Si te hubiera dicho, hubieras comprado el libro?

The sentences you found are correct, or at least used that way, but they aren't a match for the sentences you wrote in English (or what I rephrased in English).

Look at the examples the latest link gives. Look at the examples the previous link gives. I left out the 'If' part in the sentences I rephrased. You can do that in English. The Spanish translations will contain 'Si' in the clause that contains the past perfect subjunctive.

You have several typos and some grammatical errors in your sentences.
Past participle form of 'hacer' hacido.
The pronoun 'lo' is suffixed to an infinitive.

Let's look at number 7.

(yo) Huberia dicho tu si huberias me preguntado.

It should be "Te habría dicho si me hubieras pedido" or "Si me hubieras pedido, te habría dicho."
The conditional mood is properly used in the main clause. The past perfect subjunctive appears in the 'si' clause. You misspelled 'hubiera' and 'hubieras' and incorrectly used 'hubiera' (it should have been the conditional mood 'habría'). The indirect object pronouns were misplaced (one was misspelled). The wrong verb was used in the 'si' clause.

Past Perfect subjuntive is in the "si" clause and the condition is in the other clause.

I hope I am putting the reflexsive "te" in the right place. My grammar is atrocious. I went to the bookstore yesterday but the grammar workbook are for beginners, conjugation verbs in the present tense and I know that already.

(Watch spelling. It looks like the first clause is missing a direct object pronoun. In the 'si' clause, it looks like you might have mixed up some pronouns. Maybe 'te' is supposed to be the subject pronoun 'tú' (which isn't necessary since the verb ending conveys the person). Object pronouns, like 'me', precede the verb.)

10. Habria lo devuelto si te huberias me pedido.
(You've made the same mistakes here that you made in the last sentence, but at least this one contains a direct object pronoun in the first clause. It's misplaced, however. Object pronouns precede the verb.)

11. (yo) Habria hecho lo si huberias querrido.
(Place the direct object pronoun in front of the verb. Watch spelling.)

10. Yo habria asistido () la fiesta si hubiera oido.
(What always follows 'asistir'? The verb you want to use in the second clause is 'saber', not 'oír'.)

No, object pronouns precede the verb. Your verbs are compound verbs (there are two parts). Compound verbs have an auxiliary verb, 'haber', and a past participle. The auxiliary verb is conjugated. The object pronoun goes prior to the conjugated verb.

I'm doing self-study again (but I found a teacher from Spain in Vietnam) where I live.

I am seriously considering returing to Antigua Guatemala to do daily one-on-ones.

If I can polish up my grammar (e.g,. 3rd conditional) and known when and when not to use it and use it spontaneously, the program will help me.

More third conditionals by me to follow when my work slows down alter this week.
