Chased bracelet

What is a "chased" bracelet? In the sentence it is a lovely silver bracelet. Nothing to do with the hunting.

I've seen that as a term to talk about embossed or engraved metals. Nice work when it's jewelry.

Cincelado, me acaban de decir.

Thanks, Angelica. The dictionary entry was about hunting.

To chase can mean to adorn metal with work embossed or engraved. It's a shortened form of to enchase, from French.

Thanks.

Edit: I just asked my other half whether she knew what a chased bracelet was. She replied it was probably some kind of chastity belt or a token of purity. I then realised she had understood chaste bracelet.

That's curious, because I asked this when I was studying homophones, and that's the example in my book:

'He's ever so funny, my dad. He gave her a lovely silver bracelet, one of those chased ones.'
Aland couldn't imagine how one bracelet could be more chaste than another, but he didn't ask.
