How would ‘está yendo a más’’ be translated here?

"Está aumentando", "está incrementándose", "cada vez resulta más común".

Que está yendo a más quiere decir que cada vez se practica con mayor frecuencia. Es una costumbre cada día más común que los alumnos lleven su propia comida a la escuela.

"...a practice that is growing..."

Yes, I agree...
Or ... a practice that is increasing...

Or that it is on the "on the up and up"

I like the expression "to be on the up and up" (ie. steadily improving) (besides the other meaning of "honest; sincere", which is not the one for this context...)
