I really don't know how to say this in Spanish. Proclamar que lo hizo is how I would say it, but it sounds awful to me.

I'd say "adjudicarse el crédito de/por hacer algo".

- Se adjudicó el crédito de la canción, pero no la escribió él.
- A los verdaderos líderes no les importa adjudicarse el crédito de una política exitosa.
- Debería darte vergüenza adjudicarte el crédito de un trabajo que no hiciste.


Other posibilities:

- Presentar algo como propio (sin que lo sea).
- Plagiar algo.
- No dar(le)/reconocer(le) el crédito de algo a alguien.

Hmmm... no daría la misma idea... con "adjudicarse" expresas la idea de darse a sí mismo el crédito por lo que no se hizo. Me parece que además se trata de una expresión hecha.

Asumir el crédito de algo suena como si se tratara de una acción necesaria... si nadie se declara autor o responsable de algo, tendría que hacerlo quien lo asume.
