Translation of a verse from Ángel Para un Final

Hola a todos,

The verse I am trying to translate goes like this:

...hubo tal silencio el día que nos tocaba olvidar
que de tal suerte, yo todavía, no terminé de callar.

Any ideas? I would like to know a little more about the canción and some of the over all opinions of the song.

Thanks

~ Jon athan D.

..there was such a silence the day we had to forget
that kind of sort, I still didn't end/finish to talk.

I'll come back later to touch up, if nobody else has contributed.

EDIT:

Thanks Perikles.

The last part, to me, it would be "...I still can't talk"

There was such a silence that day when we happened to forget such fortune (fate/luck), I haven't yet finished remaining quiet.

Gracias Chileno y Perikles for the translations. That clears things up a bit for me.

I am not happy with the translations.

Besides, I have looked for the Spanish text in Google, and the position of the commas is not always the same. I would prefer:

The direct object of "olvidar" is "que yo todavía no terminé de callar" and not "de tal suerte".

My try, copying Perikles´ end:

There was such a silence the/that day when we had to forget that, in such a way, I haven't yet finished remaining quiet*.

Or:

There was such a silence the/that day when it was our turn to forget that, in such a way, I haven't yet finished remaining quiet.

I´m not quite sure about the best translation for "tocar" here, but it implies an obligation that "to happen" doesn´t. Does it?

*Any reason for "haven´t yet finished" instead of "didn´t yet finished"?
