Sorteo por tómbola

I hadn't really seen the word tómbola used before today. The context was in some contest rules and it said "...para poder participar en sorteos por tómbola". I assume this means "random drawing". Can anyone confirm this? Also, how common is this word? Is it the same as "al azar" basically?

Update: I asked another native speaker, and she thought tómbola refered to the box where you put everyone's raffle ticket to pull the winning one out.

How do I do it?

When someone asks a question I don't have an answer for, I get the answer from the Internet. There are many good dictionaries and other sources of information on the Internet, in both languages.

Hola David.
Saludos
