This is a discussion thread for the Daily Spanish Word for October 3, 2008
moneda - feminine noun (la) - coin, money, currency. Look up moneda in the dictionary La moneda de Inglaterra es la libra. The currency of England is the pound.

Centavos are the subdivision of the peso, just like there are 100 pennies to a dollar.
Crotalito was saying: In Mexico, (the equivalent of) the pound is the peso. I'd like to have a pound (actual weight, ¡un juego de palabras!) of five peso notes (notes = bills, paper currency) in my hand, but they are old (notes) and very hard to find nowadays. |

Yes, a pound in my country are Pesos or Centavos, I said that I'd like have a coin of Five Pesos in my hand, but these coin nowadays are very hard to found.
