In the context, you have wrote, the word Cartilla is more an idiom, you only have interpret the word in the mean that you want, for example, if you have a friend in your home and your friend is playing a video game, and you didn't know that you friend were in your home then, you can arrive to your home and, you can telling him, (I'm Siguiendote la cartilla). Bony you are saying with that expression, (I'm follow your steps.), the word Cartilla only suffice as a Modismo in Spanish, it ain't a phrase very not commonly used of the people, and either is used the word for the American People, then you can replace the word for other word for example instead of Cartilla, you can use the word steps (Pasos), I don't know very well if the word Cartilla sounds proper way, but anyhow, you can get more phrases not very knowns for the people.

Greetings.

Merry Christmas.

Crotalito,

I think you are mistaking the word "cartilla" for the word 'carrilla".

I think based on the content of the conversation that "girasol555" wrote about, I would say the word is carrilla.

I would say "darte carrilla" is similar in meaning as "picking on you" or "making fun of you".

From what I understand, the conversation was between two friends, one saying she didn't go "to bed" with her boyfriend and the other girl was "picking on her" either because she didn't believe her or because she thinks the girlfriend should have. Una le estaba dando carrilla a la otra.

What do you think?

Ok, Elaina, I think, you answer could to be used of the same way than my answer above the post, but I think that the word in my way to think would be used when a person is watching to other person with permission of the person, because, in the context of the conversation, the boy is watching to the friend of the girl of the him, he wanted go to the bed with her, but she didn't want to does that with him, the he decided seguirle cartilla to her.

Hello and merry Christmas to all,

regarding la cartilla, this is a conversation between those two girlfriends:

TAMARA:
¡Toñito se ha portado como todo un caballero contigo, ah!

MARILYN:
Ay, si , Tamara, tan bello, ha sido tan paciente. Ay, tan comprensivo.

TAMARA
Marilyn y, ¿y a ti no te da como miedo que Toñito se fastidie, ah? (because Marliyn didn't want to have sex - lose her virginity - with Tonito)

MARILYN
¡Ay no! No no no no no, claro qu-que no, ni lo he pensado. Cancelado, no.

TAMARA
¿¡Ah no!?

MARILYN
No.

TAMARA

MARILYN
¡Ay!, ¿¡Tamara por qué me dices esas cosas!? Bueno, ¡hace minuto y medio yo estaba segura de lo que quería!, ahora no se. ¿Será que yo me estoy creando muchas expectativas?

TAMARA
Ay Marilyn, yo no se. Mira, quizás sea que, ¡quizás sea que, que bueno que tú lo estás preparando mucho todo! ¡Si si!, que tú estás, no se, como ay, preparando mucho la cosa, los detalles, ¡y eso pasa cuando tiene que pasar y ya, listo! A veces eso pasa cuando, cuando uno menos se lo espera. ¡Ya vas a ver, ya vas a ver!

Perhaps this helps to better understanding what meaning la cartilla has in this conversation.

Thank you all.

Sí, pero en esa conversación, ¿qué significa la cartilla? Ya le he preguntado a un hablante nativo, y él no tenía ni idea.

"Te sigo la cartilla"
"Bueno, la cartilla de tu mamá seguro es muy diferente a la de la mía."

Look, David, as I said before in this same post, you only has suffixed the word the sigo la cartilla, I think that the word is more an idiom in sundry countries, the word does make sence in any hang, if you want use the word as an idiom or other way to speak is accurate, then I suppose that the word could to be much means in itself language, for example, you have the phrase (I got it) mean Entendi, but the same phrase in this oration I got it away mean (Se me fue) then of the same way, Te sigo la cartilla could to be mean much translation in Spanish, What do you think?

Thanks. Seguir la cartilla must be an idiomatic expression used in other countries, and not Mexico. Thanks!

Of course this phrase means something. It can't just be dismissed, as David alluded. It may not be a phrase used in Mexico, but it must mean something to someone.

Seguir la cartilla and seguirle la cartilla have both been posted in this thread. The former is not being used in the discussion. The latter may mean something different than the former.

Since both appear to be idiomatic expressions, it would be helpful if a native speaker who is familiar with the expressions would respond.
Those of us who don't know what the phrase means should not offer help or comment.

Si personalmente no conoces una palabra o frase, lo correcto sería decir "no usamos esa frase en el sur de México", no decir "It's does not mean anything." (sic) que simplemente no es verdad. Gracias.

Okay, from what I can gather, te sigo leyendo la cartilla, means this........

this is what mom has written on her "book" about men, should I continue reading it?

Bueno, la cartilla de tu mamá seguro es muy diferente a la de la mía...
Well, I'm sure your mom's "book" is different than mine.

You know how "we" always refer to "my book" when we are having a conversation with someone else (mostly women)

-she's not that good in my book
-my book says something different about her
-according to my book, she lost it a long time ago

Do you catch my drift?

etc. etc. etc.
