Cierre de cartel

I don't think so. We don't use that expression much, but to me it's the last act of a show.
I think it comes from bullfighting language, from the last name at the poster that listed the names of the bullfighters during an afternoon.

Al principio pensé lo mismo, pero después dije que no puede ser "cierre de cartelera", o sí?

Cierre de cartelera me parecería el último espectáculo de una temporada de presentaciones.
Un cartel está más asociado a un espectáculo de un solo día.

Supongo que Pablo o Irma tendrán una mejor idea del asunto.

are you asking about a concert or bullfighting?
It means that the artists for a concert/bullfighting are chosen.
For a big concert (For example "Rock in Rio" or "Woodstock") or a "Feria Taurina" some players are already know, but others are unsure or speculation. When the managers says "El cartel está cerrado " or "se ha dado ya el cierre de cartel" means the last contracts are done and we can know all the definitive players.

Gracias a ambos... parece que aquí se usa de manera más bien equivocada entonces: Los locutores encargados de corridas de toros, con frecuencia dicen cosas del tipo: "El cierre de cartel, a cargo de Curro Martínez, desilusionó a los asistentes, quienes esperaban tres rabos y una oreja... [blablabla]".

@Poli: For what I understand then, if the expression in a figurative sense, it might just imply the final decisions before reaching a final agreement to start a business.

No, no creo que se use mal. Es otra acepción que me parece correcta también (y creo que en uso en España, por lo que recuerdo.)

En el ámbito de los conciertos, puedes decir que el grupo "Bla" tocaba de telonero, estaba tal y tal cantautor y "Danza Invisible" cerró el cartel con una actuación espectacular... (Acabó la función...)

Si, también se puede usar, por eso pedía contexto. En ese caso se entiende que es el último, el que cierra/acaba el cartel.
"El torero XXX, que cerraba cartel, no funcionó tan bien como los anteriores...."

Del mismo modo en el caso inicial, al cerrarse el cartel se puede imprimir, por lo que ya se conocen todos los participantes.
