Dowel

Dowel is a small stick or piece of wood, milled to a round shape. What is the right way of saying this in Spanish? I have found a few different options (and have some translations here in the dictionary), but would like some more opinions on this. Dowel usually refers to a yard-long or meter-long piece, and dowel pin refers to a short piece that has been cut to be inserted into a hole.

Dowel also usually refers to a piece of wood, while a dowel pin can be wooden or metal.

Thanks!

I like Tomísimos choice of espiga.

An alternate word may be eje, but I think an eje is a more powerful thing
than a dowel.
Poste is another thing that resembles dowel. Afterall, a dowel is a post.

oops. I'm not an expert in this field.
I think "espiga de madera" is the best one for "wood dowel", because dowel pin is "pasador de espiga"
Others (not so sure): tirafondo, perno, taco, taquete, tarugo
Saludos

Yes, interesting. I've also hear perno as the small spring-loaded piece if wire/metal that goes through the watch band to hold it onto the watch. Taquete means anchor. Not a ship's anchor, but the kind of anchor you put in a hole in the wall to hold a screw.
