Lightbulb Sucesos

What do you call the newspaper section where murders and robberies are listed ? IN Spain we call them sucesos. Any ideas of how to call them in English?

Well, it depends on the kind of newspaper. If it's a national newspaper, it will be 'news' or with no heading at all. A local newspaper will probably have a section 'National News' and another with 'Local News' so it will depend on where the crimes happened.

I think you've just confirmed what I said in post #2.

No, it's OK. No need to apologise. It's been so long since I had a British newspaper in my hands that I wasn't sure if the news was still organised in that way

In national news: The chairman of Toyota will be appearing before congress today.
In local news: father confesses to throwing in child off the bridge.

Genarally local scandals are covered in detail in local news. There are
newspapers that focus on local news.

Big scandals like cheating golf stars or politians get covered in national news, but most of the dirt is seen in the local papers.

Have a look at the Huddersfield Examiner (A local newspaper for a medium sized town in Yorkshire, UK)

So there has never been a crime page in English/American newspapers?

I don't think UK newspapers split things up like that. There is always a section for sport, but crime and politics are mixed up - hmmm.

*sigh* ok - there is a separate business section as well. There is a different section for everything except politics, crime, natural disasters, celebrity chat and various other things which you will remind me about.
