Could you please explain a few things? Why no question mark at the end of "espanol" but a question mark at the end of "por favor"? I also capitalised "espanol" as it is a name, is this not the case in Spanish? The text I have been reading puts and accent on the "o" in perdone, is this incorrect then or can you do it both ways? Also, I am not sure I understand the 2nd sentence? are you saying "...repeat what he said..."? Gracias... Last edited by Señor Hombre; February 06, 2015 at 03:47 PM. |

I'm not Rusty, but I can answer some of your questions.

However, if your text has "perdóneme" (with an object pronoun attached to the end of the imperative verb), then the accent mark on the "o" is correct and required. In most cases, the absence or presence of the accent mark on "perdone" and "perdóneme" are required by the Spanish spelling and accent rules. There are a few pairs of words that are customarily distinguished in writing by using an accent mark on one word but not on the other words. In some cases the distinguishing accent mark is required; in other cases it is optional. Perhaps the most-used pairs are "tú" (second person singular familiar subject pronoun) = "you" and "tu" (second-person singular familiar singular possessive adjective) = "your", "mí" (first person singular prepositional object pronoun) = "me" and "mi" (first person singular possessive adjective) = "my", and "sí" = yes and "si" = "if". Quote:
Lo siento = "I'm sorry (about it)" podría = "would/could you" (implied subject = usted = "you" (second person formal) repetir = "repeat" más despacio = "more slowly" lo que = "what" (or "that which") dijo = "you said" por favor = "please" Last edited by wrholt; February 06, 2015 at 04:33 PM. |

So I should have said How do you say the following in Spanish? ¿Cómo se dice la siguiente en español? rather than "How do you say in Spanish..." |
