Context:
- Hola, que te ha parecido la fiesta
- bueno, no estaba mal, pero no había nadie guapo
- Bueno, mejorando lo presente.
Es decir, que con la persona con quien se habla era la más guapa de la fiesta.

"Present company excepted" is used in British English. Don't know about other dialects.
