I don't think there is a difference in meaning. You could say that ave is a more technical and more poetic word than pájaro. In everyday speaking is much more common to hear pájaro than ave.
AVE is also the acronym for Alta Velocidad Española (Spanish High Speed Trains). This info comes from Madrid, España. ![]()
