lazo - masculine noun (el) - rope, string, cord. Look up lazo in the dictionary

Here, in some events, for example, festivales in, we've demostrations about the use of the horses. to that events we've called Lienzo Charro, it's so popular in Mexico, and it's so wonderful as the horsesman use the Lienzo Charro.

In Central America, I only heard the word cuerda used for a rope.
The word lazo immediately made me think about the English word lasso. Indeed, my dictionary says that it comes from the word lazo.
The DRAE gives this meaning for lazo:
Cuerda o trenza con un nudo corredizo en uno de sus extremos, que sirve para sujetar toros, caballos, etc., arrojándosela a los pies o a la cabeza.

I honestly think that lazo most people consider lazo as a kind of knot with a loop or a bow. Soga and cuerda are better translations for rope

Son intercambiables, pero se usa most of the people cuando se refiere a un grupo de gente particular. Ejemplo: I went to the movie, and it seemed that most of the people in the audience, liked it.
Otro ejemplo: Most people like the movie The Godfather.

Yea, could be it, Rusty. In Centro America, the people has many form to say things almost likeness to the word said in Mexico.

This pertains to the Wild West culture that the US shares with Mexico.
Cowboys would rope in cattle with lasos or larriets. "Getting roped in"
is as proverbial phrase we use for constraining things.

Absolutely. It's symbolic "rope" (it's more like a big necklace) they put around the bride and groom's necks to join them. I'm not sure about the history/origin of the custom. Here are some sample lazos. http://www.nuestraboda.com/tienda/lazos/index.php

I don't think the idea was to be "roped" like cattle!

It's a Catholic symbol of unity. "What the church has united let no man undo" or something to that effect.

I think it's quite interesting, an beautiful at the same time. But not how you guys have been talking about it!
