"hacer chapuzas" se traduce "to make a mess of something", o "to 'botch'
the job" en ingles.

"chapucero" se traduce como "sloppy worker".

SOMETIMES HACER CHAPUZAS has got a positive connotation for example :
A que se dedica tu marido
A hacer chapuzas, that´s here and there nothing fixed.

For this meaning we use the nouns 'jack-of-all-trades' or 'handyman'. For the verb, we say 'to do/work odd jobs'.

What does your husband do?
He's a handyman.
