I wrote the following phrase: "...se acaba de terminar un grande proyecto de renovación...".

I'm trying to say: "...they just finished a major refurbishing project..."

I don't think I got it right.....

According to the English version "...(ellos) recién terminaron/acaban de terminar un gran proyecto de renovación"

You Spanish version should be "...just finished a major refurbishing project"

You Spanish version does not state who just finished...

I don't think you need a reflexive at all here.

They just finished a major refurbishing project -- Ellos Acaban de terminar un gran proyecto de renovación

I know for a fact it should be "gran" not "grande" because "grande" is only after the noun.

Edit: yeah what chileno said makes sense the ellos is needed too

In my opinion "se acaba de terminar un gran proyecto..." is completely correct, unless I need to know the subject.

Right. Which in turn could be translated to "un gran proyecto de renovación ha sido recién/recién ha sido terminado"

Agree with Irmamar. The 'they' in Lou Ann's original sentence is an impersonal subject pronoun, so the impersonal 'se' should be used in the translation. Both the active (the one that has an impersonal subject) and the passive (the sentence that Perikles wrote) constructs are correct translations of the impersonal 'se' construct.

Sorry I'm just getting back to this. Yes, I meant the "they" in the impersonal ... with the sense of "a major refurbishing project has recently been finished". I really like the use of "se <<verb in 3rd person singular>>" form as sort of a passive voice in Spanish. I think that it gets the right sense that I'm going for here, as long as the grammar is okay (with the change from grande to gran....) Thanks, all!

That could be translated as:

...un gran projecto de renovación ha recientemente (sido) concluido/terminado/acabado.
