Smile Hola, me llamo Gina, soy de Inglaterra

Hi, my name is Gina and I have been learning Spanish for about a year. I am not very confident in Spanish yet because I haven't really had much chance to practise it, which is why I joined this forum.

I love learning languages, I hope that one day I will be fluent in lots of languages (I also recently started learning Romanian).

Hola Gina, welcome from me. Don't worry about being a beginner.

P.S. Any particular reason for Romanian?

Things tend to be quiet here during European daytime. Most posters live elsewhere and sleep at weird times.

Yes, I've often found the same with forums where there are a lot of Americans. Sometimes I stay up all night posting on forums, things get more lively during the night when I should be asleep

I don't really have a reason for learning Romanian, I just love the sound of the language.

Bienvenida Gina!
Your blog is really interesting, I'll keep an eye on it. By the way, how old are you?
Good luck!

Well, not for long. Say, two months now.
I have (or used to have) some spanish-speaking friends whom I have lost so many of them because I donn't speak spanish and they don't speak english. so you see, I'm still a baby.

Espero que te diviertas y aprendas mucho español, y también que nos enseñes el inglés de las islas...

You can still learn lots in two months, I can guarantee you're much better at Spanish than I am at Romanian at this time.

Hey Gina,
For a 15 year old you sound quite mature! (I saw your blog and it is definitely very interesting... and with the right attitude!)

As I was browsing, I am not sure why, I remembered the book The Professor and the Madman.

I believe you may enjoy reading it... I just remember it, because Murray, the Chief Editor of the Oxford English Dictionary, spoke fluently an ungodly number of languages and was acquainted with all the different Scottish accents... (among other knowledge of Greek, Latin, etc.) if I remember well... (I read the book some 8 or 9 years ago... so the details may get a bit blurry for me...)

Anyhow, here is a note about it,

"The Professor and the Madman is about the making of the Oxford English Dictionary. The book describes the process of contribution that helped make the dictionary possible. The major focuses of the story are James Murray and Dr. W.C. Minor. Murray (the professor) develops an interest in Minor because he has contributed more than ten thousand entries to the dictionary. The story and history take an odd twist when Murray discovers that Minor is currently residing at an asylum for the crimnally insane."
Kristy Pastore, Resident Scholar

At any rate, your thirst for knowledge is admirable... so enjoy the ride!

Muy bien.
Gracias a ese libro aprendí una palabra inglesa que me gusta mucho:
ser·en·dip·i·ty, n.
1. an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident.
2. good fortune; luck: the serendipity of getting the first job she applied for.
[1754; SERENDIP + -ITY; Horace Walpole so named a faculty possessed by the heroes of a fairy tale called The Three Princes of Serendip]

Well, whether by accident or looking for these, I hope you enjoy your discoveries!
