Crotalito - I GREATLY appreciate your input. I am working hard to learn Latin American Spanish - I have many students from Latin American countries, have two very new friends from South America who speak mostly Spanish (from Peru and from Uruguay) and may be attending a conference in Mexico City in May. My learning curve needs to be huge!

Elaina will become famous soon enough
I agree with David and Crotalito for the use of el and la when speaking of bebé......

As far as policía goes.....I can think of a few names to use for it/them whether it is collectively or not.........
