I was actually thinking about doing this. I was considering reading harry potter once I passed Spanish 4 or 5, probably 5 though. Or would I need more of an education to do so?

Chileno would want you to start today. Don't wait until you know more Spanish - reading the novel will get you there much sooner.

I agree. Start today and memorize the meaning of every word you don't already know. It'll work wonders.

I see. I guess that I could buy a spanish harry potter book from borders, right?

Also, should I start off with a book that's a little easier? Or do you think Harry Potter's okay? I think it's at a 5th grade reading level, I'm not quite sure.

In my opinion, you can use any book at all. Read it slowly and look up every word you don't know. Write down, study, and memorize the words you don't know.

I also would recommend reading something in Spanish that interests you. I'm also a big fan of listening as well as reading. Here's a link to the text and audio files for El Principito by Antoine de Saint Exupéry.

http://albalearning.com/audiolibros/...rincipito.html

I hope this helps.

¿Cualquier recomendaciones? Empezé estudiar español hace tres meses, querría un libro más fácil

Encontré esta página web la cual oferta libros digitales gratuitos

http://www.e-libro.net/gratis/indexlibros.asp

Yo prefiero que mis libros son digitales porque puedo imprimirlos y hay mucho espacio en el papel para escribir las traducciones

Aren't easy Spanish books sold there? Here you're able to buy easy English books, with several levels, based on longers novels. Usually they're some interesting novel in short, with easy vocabulary. They're good for starting

Yes, but my recommendation is to look for a book that is of your complete liking, and if possible, be a book that has already been read in English, and completely loved.

Lee un libro que está a tu altura de compresión. In other words, read a book that you would read in English.

I do not think you would willingly read in English a kid's book nowadays, just because you want to read "something". Right?

As above...

Read something that is of your REAL interest, and make it a novel.

For example: if you like to read about WII, don't just read a book about it, because the book will relate most likely stuff from the war giving figures , dates etc, whereas a novel about the war will mix LIFE. Love, adventure, sensations, feelings etc... a world of descriptions, which is how our mind works...

Si te gustó en inglés, a fuerza te tiene que gustar en español.

El haberlo leído en inglés una vez, te ayuda a comprenderlo en español más rápido. La cosa es tener paciencia con uno mismo, porque me imagino que quieres hacer esto para "ayer", ¿no?

A mí cuando alguien me dice que quiere algo "para ayer" le contesto: "pues habérmelo dado mañana"

Hola a todos, hi everyone!

For those of you who are interested in it (I have not used it myself so I have no opinion on the quality of it.. I know people say very different things, some love it some hate it..)

The Latin American version of the Rosetta Stone (Level 1,2 and 3) can be downloaded for free on this site.

In fact on this site you can find many free ebooks & audiobooks such as grammarbooks, Spanish courses, audio materials as well as literature (on the sistersite for which you can use the same login details). You have to register in order to be able to download but this is free and only used for registration.

I removed a link to illegal copies of software. No hard feelings, but we can't promote piracy here.

Oh sorry, I hadn't realized that - in fact I have not used this myself either.

Sorry!
