wafflestomp is on a distinguished road
In American English, it's not that it's pedantic, but it's just not used in conversation at all. I use it all the time in essays for class because it sounds very professional, but it is not at all a word you'd want to use in conversation. I'll bet you at least 30 percent of the American population doesn't know what it means.
