Al alcance de cualquiera

Hola,

Can someone please help me with the translation of this phrase, the entire sentence is:

"El problema es que acceder a estos centros privados y pagar sus matrículas no está al alcance de cualquiera."

So far I have:

The problem is that gaining access to these private institutions and paying their fees isn’t...

How would I complete it?

Gracias de antemano!

A possible alternative might be "...isn't within the reach of just anyone." What do you think?

Agreed. Was going to write this, but decided that the meaning would be clear without it. It may not be, however, so the alternative would clench it.

That's the opposite. The first one is correct. The second one.

More commonly you may hear: beyond our grasp. This usually applies to
a concept rather than something material although it may apply to material things as well. Examples: The concept of infinity is beyond my grasp. The concept of a mirror is beyond the grasp of my dog. Are there things beyond our grasp that we unconsciously ignore because they are beyond our grasp.

How about "...is not within everyone's means"?

That's generally a monetary reach at least on this side.

@Poli: Which is mostly the idea of the sentence. Those are expensive schools and expensive careers. ;(

Yes, for the context, seems to refer to the economic aspect.
Oxford gives (among other examples),

un país en el que tener televisión no está al alcance de cualquiera = a country where owning a television is not within everyone’s reach;
tarifas al alcance de su presupuesto = prices to suit your pocket;
eso no está a mi alcance = that’s not in my power;
