How Do I Attach/Insert an MP3 Sound Recording

Using "Sound Recorder" on my computer, I was able to record a two-minute segment from a radio news program app and save the two-minute recording to my hard drive as an MP3 file.

There are three words in this MP3 recording that I can’t understand and would like to have a forum member tell me what they are, but I can’t find a way to attach the MP3 recording from my hard drive to a new thread so you all can listen to it.

When I press the “Attachment” icon, all I get is an error message that says: ERROR: Undefined constant "currentattaches" in ..../newattacment.php on line 408. When I press the "Insert Link" icon, it asks for a URL, but, of course, there is no URL; it's a file on my hard drive.

Is there not a way for me to attach a short MP3 recording from my hard drive to a new thread so you all can listen to it and help me with the three words in question?

The error message needs reported to Tomísimo ('/newattacment.php' should be '/newattachment.php' ).

Meanwhile, if you transcribe some sentences before and after the words/syllables you don't understand, perhaps someone can make an educated guess at what might be missing.

If that idea doesn't pan out well, the 'mp3' file can be uploaded to Google Drive and then shared with a member of the forums (provided said member will give you their email address so that you can send them the link to the 'mp3' file).

I agree with Rusty.
In the meantime, is it possible for you to upload the recording to Google Files or some kind of online platform so you can paste the link to it?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Since I now listen to short news articles in Spanish, I was hoping that there would be a simple way to just be able to download an MP3 file from my hard drive and attach it to a thread. However, I see that isn't possible. It already takes going through quite a few hoops to record the news articles and get them onto my hard drive in MP3 format, so I think for now, I'm just going to try to find someone in person to be able to help me with these problem words.

In the meantime, maybe Tomísimo will work on a way to be able to attach recordings.

Again, thanks for your help.

Can you copy it, and send it to yourself in an email, and then copy the email and paste it to a thread?

Thanks for the suggestion, poli, however, it doesn’t work.

I have the recording attached to an e-mail to myself, but only the words in the e-mail copy; the attached recording doesn’t copy.

I can use the “Insert Email Link” icon and put it in a thread, but in order for anyone to open the e-mail that has the recording, you have to have my username and password.

Previously, I had also tried just copying the actual recording from my hard drive and then tried to paste it directly onto the thread, but the recording doesn’t directly copy onto the thread. It has to be attached, but our site doesn't allow recordings to be attached.

Hopefully, Tomísimo will eventually find a way for us to be able to attach recordings to our threads just by using the attachment icon.

Yeah, the only way to share a link to it is to post it to some type of cloud storage that allows sharing a link. I usually use Google Drive to do just that, if you already have a google account. After uploading the file to google drive, you can right click on it to get a menu for sharing, and you can set the link so that anyone can use it to view/play the file, but they cannot modify it, and then copy the link to your clipboard, and paste it wherever you wish.

Okay. I played around with Google Drive today and hopefully have figured out what you all suggested to do.

I figured out how to download the MP3 file to Google Drive. I then used the "Share" icon to get a copy of the link. The link address that was generated is:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/18gb...ew?usp=sharing

First I want to make sure that someone can actually hear the recording from this link. If they can, then I'll ask my specific questions about it in another thread.

Please use the link above and let me know if the MP3 file of a woman cautioning about improperly discarding airline boarding passes can be heard.

I'm getting an Access Error message. This tells me you didn't select that anyone with the link can access the file (if that was an option afforded to you).
You mustn't give anyone 'editor' access - select 'can view'.
Since the file is an 'mp3', anyone who clicks on the link should be able to use an 'mp3' player on their device to listen to what you uploaded, provided you allow anyone with the link to access the file.

I'm being given the option to request access, but then you would be shown my Google account information.

Thanks, Rusty. I found the areas you pointed out and made the changes. You should be able to hear the recording now.

Please let me know if you can now access and play the recording so I can reference a couple problem words.

Yes, I can now hear the recording.
It begins mid-sentence and, unfortunately, there are places where the recording is garbled, making it difficult to understand.
I understood most of the two-minute recording, but the difficult-to-hear moments are likely the same places you couldn't make out what was being said. These moments seem to concur with the times when the announcer stops to breathe a tad more than usual.
So, sorry to say, I probably don't have anything to offer.
But I have written down everything I could (or thought I could) understand, if that would be of any help. I'll post that if you want it, but need to get going to an appointment right now.

Thanks, Rusty.

Yes, I know the recording is not the greatest, but I don't need the entire recording captioned. I can understand everything from the original program except a couple problem words.

Around 50-56, what word is said directly after a priori ?????? and continues with permiten, por ejemplo, acceder con facilidad...............

Also at 1:34, what is the word that sounds like fotori followed by no se recomienda publicar fotos de su billete en........

Again, thanks for your help.

It's hard to understand, because it seems to be a text read by an AI voice and it's kind of unsettling to hear them mix "tú" and "usted" , but here's what it says:

"A priori" and "a fortiori" are both Latin expressions.

"A priori" means "primeramente", and it's frequently used to say that a situation is assumed to be in a certain way, without thinking very much about it. So, here, it would mean that one thinks that these data aren't really important, but we have to think again and protect them.

As for "fortiori", it should say "a fortiori". It means "all the more". Here, we need to be reminded that if you have to be careful with your plane tickets and boarding passes, it would be evidently dangerous to post this information online for everyone to see.
