Hand-written Spanish

Hi, I am translating an old document. Here is one entry. I can translate all but the first line, and the main problem is that I can't read it. Any help with reading the first line would be appreciated. I need to know what it is in Spanish. i.e. "El ...". Thanks, Max

I can't be certain about the first two words in the first line (El G?al), but the last two are the name of the Provincial Governor. His signature appears near the bottom of the document, in his own pen, above the words Gobernador Provincial.

The writer of the document spelled the governor's last name with an i on the end, but the governor himself spelled it with a y.

I believe the governor's first name is Nazario.
His last name could be Lucardi. (There were other options I toyed with, but this seems the most likely.)

El Gral. Nazario Zuardi, Gobernador Provincial de La Vega, Rep. Dom., certifica: que el Sr. Medjotin(?) Strnad(?) Emplomador(???) ha visitado esta Gobernación Provincial hoy 17 de mayo de 1930 a las 10 a. m.

I'm not sure about the name of the man who asked for the certification that he had been there... If you know, would you please satisfy my curiosity and tell who it was?
Anyway, "Gobernación Provincial" and "La Vega" are easily guessed from the stamp.


@Rusty: The signature also ends with an "i" (it has a dot on it), but it has an ornamental line that makes it look like a "y".

I thought about the abbreviation for General long after I posted. Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

I believe Sr. Medjotin(?) Strnad(?) was an explorador.

I googled a little and I see Suardí but no Zuardi
And a tobacco factory in Dominicana is Rodriguez-Strnad (origen checo http://www.cigarros.cz/?p=index-es)

For the name i'm lost Miljotin /Miljutin ??

"S" looks more congruent indeed... The first I found was Zuardi, but that could have been a mistake from the people who mentioned him. ...I would only disagree about the accent on the "i": it looks like "Suardi" to me.

Thanks everyone! The name is Miljotin Strnad and he was an explorer of sorts. He was my mother's cousin. I failed to note that the name on the top line, and the signature were the same. Thanks again,


Oh, and Miljotin Strnad was from Slovenia.

From slovenia, OK, but it was Miljotin.
So we were correct. Wonderful teamwork !!
PD: Angelica, I think in the signature the í in Suardí it's more clear. It doesn't matter anyway.

Literally, handwriting should be "escritura a mano"... but you can also say about someone:

Tiene bonita/buena letra.
Tiene buena/bonita caligrafía.
