That's quite an interesting expression actually..
So am I correct in understanding this is 'to throw yourself into a field of eggplants'

Does anyone know more about the origin of this expression, and are there other expressions for this in Spanish, perhaps different in México, Chile, Argentina/ other Latin countries? Maybe a 'field of cacti' instead e.g....?

Well, I have seen what happens underneath an eggplant tree if the fruit are not harvested, and it can be a real mess.
